“Seva” is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service” or work performed without any thought of reward or repayment. In ancient India seva was believed to help one’s spiritual growth and at the same time contribute to the improvement of a community. This is the art of giving with no need to receive, where the act itself is a gift to everyone involved. Seva is the art of blessed action.
Although not a vegetarian to begin with, yoga influenced Rachel to adopt a plant-based diet. Her love and compassion for animals have led her to team up with Iowa Farm Sanctuary, a non-profit farm in Marengo, Iowa dedicated to rescuing animals from slaughter and other traumatic situations.
Rachel was born with a rare genetic bleeding disorder. Hemophilia is an expensive condition with no current cure, and has a 50% chance of being passed on to the children of carriers. Yoga and meditation have helped Rachel to live with hemophilia, and she now gives back by using her offerings to raise funds for the care of others.
